Hi,
I am not sure I get precisely your questions. Let me say a few thigs and feel free to ask more on what is the core of the question.
CPLEX is a Mathematical and Constraint Programming engine. It is the core of all IBM Decision Optimization capabilities.
Some customers and partners use CPLEX directly to create a completely custom business solution that requires decision making.
In that case, they need to
1. create optimization model formulations ,
2. integrate it technically into their custom solution, and
3. provide the required UI interactions to cover the decisioning needs.
We also have quite a few IBM products which includes CPLEX one way or another in their stack.
Maximo is indeed one of these. Not only it includes the engine, but it also includes some predefined models for some typical asset management problems. It also includes some OOTB integration and UI.
Planning Analytics offers 2. and 3. Without any code you can plug some decision optimization behind a PAW action button. The integration to Decision Optimization is done through the Watson Studio part of Cloud Pak for Data. Hence it is robust and scalable.
Still one need to formulate the optimization model. This can be done in Watson Studio by a data scientist with some optimization knowledge. This can be done by a partner, or by IBM (e.g. data Science Elite Team).
Hope this helps,
Alain

I am curious to understand how business partners are building out decision optimization solutions for their clients. IBM has both Maximo and Cplex as part of building asset and decision optimization solutions.

Hello IBM Community,
With IBM PAW 2.0.68 there is a new capability to use Decision Optimization on Cloud Pak for Data.
Beyond the documentation (Use Decision Optimization), are there any examples or case studies that are in the works to help us learn the best way to integrate this into TM1 models? I would love the opportunity to use so looking forward to learning more about this new function.
Thanks!
