  • 1.  Data Modules and Data Set Questions

    Posted Sun February 27, 2022 04:01 AM
    Hi all,
I'm migrating from Cognos v11.1.7 to v11.2.1 and setting up on my VM dev server to give it a test drive. A couple of questions have come to mind:

    1) In the Data module documentation for v11.2.1 there's a passage "Concurrent query execution is not available for reports that are based on data modules." and it refers to the documentation on "Concurrent Query Execution". However, neither documents provide a reason "why" this restriction applies. I'm hoping someone can give me a simple explanation for the "why".

    2)  For Data Sets I've noticed that the "..\analytics\data\datafiles\datasetCache" location does not exist in v11.2.1. So, where are the Data Set " *.data " files stored? Have they been replaced with something else?

Hope someone can throw me a bone on these burning questions. Thanks in advance...

    Hello Syd,
    re 1: concurrent query execution
This option is not supported in 11.1.6 and earlier releases, because the Dev&QC teams did not have the opportunity to verify proper functioning in the earlier releases where Data module support was introduced.
Starting with 11.1.7 (thus 11.2.x as well), two properties were made available for Data modules as well, 'Concurrent query execution' and 'Use for parameter info'
I'm going to log a documentation bug to ensure that the documentation gets updated to reflect this.

re 2: location of data files.
By default these files appear in <install>/data/datafiles/datasetCache
It is configured from cogconfig.bat tool. I've attached a screenshot for that as well.

Hope that this info was helpful.
