I have created a dashboard setting two figures within a dashboard in the same tab.

Figure 1 has say column 1, and column 2 from a table under Bars section. Column 1 has three levels, say A, B and C, of which A is selected as filter. Column two has two levels, say P and Q, of which P is selected.

Figure 2 is the same as Figure 1, but instead Q is slected in Column 2.

If I select B in Column 1 in Figure A, nothing changes in Figure B in the dahsboard, or vice versa

How can I make the figures communicate or interactive, so that if I choose either A or B or C in Column 1, Figure 1 and Figure 2 must change automatically, but their filters are always set to P and Q correspondingly, but must change according to the selection of A, B and C?

Sorry, I am new to Cognos. Any help?

    Hey Rizwan,
By default, all visualizations on the canvas are connected.  So building you on your example, if I select "A" from column 1 in Figure 1, that selection will be highlighted in Figure 2 (see screenshot)

However in your question, you suggested that figure 1 is filtered only on A, and Figure 2 is filtered only on P.  In that scenario the filters are in conflict so it wouldn't matter which gesture you did in either visualization:

The rule for interactivity is best described as follows:

    - If Figure 2 has a given field projected within the visualization (meaning that it's included as a color, row or column), when you select that field in Figure 1, Figure 2 will highlight that selection (as you see in my first screenshot)
    - If Figure 2 does not project a given field, any selection you make in Figure 1 will filter Figure 2 based on that selection:
In the above screenshot, I've selected "P" from Column 2 in Figure 1.  Therefore in Figure 2, it will filter on P.

    Hi Matt,

Many thanks for the reply with the demo. Unknowingly, I had set column A also under the Bars in addition to the Data Player visualization. This messed up everything and was showing all the options of column A simultaneously. After I removed Column A from Bars, the Data player and the figures worked fine, showing exactly the options when the data player option was run.

I have two issues to visualization:

    1) Meanwhile, do you know is there any provision to get magnitudes of mosaics at the bottom in a Marimekko plot rather than percentage? The percentage scale at the x -axis can be hidden, however, how can this be plotted as the magnitude of the mosacis (say the sum of length of the quantity added up along the x direction for each block)?

The below link raises this question:
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/businessanalytics/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MessageKey=c5e63679-c748-4eb0-a2dd-6ffad88f636b&CommunityKey=6b10df83-0b3c-4f92-8b1f-1fd80d0e7e58&tab=digestviewer#bmc5e63679-c748-4eb0-a2dd-6ffad88f636b

    2) Also, is there a way to change the orientation of Seg A, Seg B, Seg C, Seg D (the link below) at the top of the mosaics to be printed vertically rather than horizontally:
    https://community.ibm.com/community/user/businessanalytics/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?MessageKey=39e92848-3d45-4cae-8b98-6d8d178e1d04&CommunityKey=6b10df83-0b3c-4f92-8b1f-1fd80d0e7e58&tab=digestviewer#bm39e92848-3d45-4cae-8b98-6d8d178e1d04

Apparently, if the mosacis become thin, and if there are more such vertical column mosacis, the default scenario prints the text horozontally at the very top, but close to each other (one at the top and the other at the bottom).

    Default situation:
    Desired output:

    Kind regards,
    Rizwan

    Good Morning,

Edit the dashboard.  Select the visualization.  Click the widget icon at the top navigation bar.  On the left of visualization, associate with an existing filter group or create a new one.

    Warm Regards,
    Eli

Thanks Eli, is there a way to solve the two issues above in my post?
