Hi Gurus,

We have a typical requirement which is to create the Cognos Analytics dashboard on which to refresh the data for every thirty minutes. We understand that we have option in dashboard level to set refresh time for every 5 seconds. However I wonder what are the possible options to refresh the back end data? Are there any new or additional components we rely to get the updated data in the back end to project values in dashboard. We are using SQL and Oracle as our back end databases. I understand we should deal with oltp transaction data but how to manage that. 

Please help us at the earliest.

That would be a task for ETL why would you think that a capability of Cognos?

Let me try to restate my comment, Cognos Analytics does not have any capability to refresh back end data.  That is a task for another tool like ETL to update database data.

Hi,
It's not possible to "comunique" with databases directly from Dashbord.
With Cognos you can execute stored procedures with Event Studio. You can schedule this action, but it is dissociate from Dashboard.

1. Setup an ETL or Dataloader process to refresh/load your backend data.
2. Make ETL job to fire a Cognos trigger to refresh your report.
3. Grab a beer:-)

If you use datasets as a datasource, you can refresh them in Cognos, but as everyone mentioned ETL or Stored proc's are the way to go.
