  • 1.  Must add multi-factor authentication - any solutions that will retain object ownership?

    Posted Tue April 16, 2024 10:10 AM

We support hundreds of clients that each have their own instance of Cognos 11.?.?. Almost all are in an instance specific Cognos Active Directory group that they use to sign into Cognos. Now we need to add Multi-Factor authentication for Cognos sign in. Some of our Cognos instances have hundreds (maybe thousands) of objects owned by multiple users. If adding Multi-Factor authentication requires that we (or our customers) have to reassign all objects it would be a nightmare.

    1) is there a way to add multi-factor authentication without losing ownership of objects? I guess basically can it be done without having to create a new namespace.

    2) if there is no way to add multi-factor authentication without losing object ownership, does anyone have any sdk code, routine, steps, etc to change ownership of objects

thanks for the reply. we have someone working on the multi-factor. what i am most concerned about is how to retain or re-apply object ownership for our client's objects in a programmatic or at least step by step proecess.

    Brenda,

Motio does offer a product, Persona IQ , to ease name space changes for Cognos customers. It's rather clever in that it allows the administrators to map the new identities in the new name space to their old identities from the old one and not lose their content or permissions.

The problem with 3rd party software is that we have hundreds of separate Cognos instances installed over many servers. The software licensing is usually per instance or per server.
