  • 1.  Filtering from the Insertable objects pane using a Data Module

    Hey everyone,

We are in the process of evaluating moving some of our frameworks over to data modules.  We have created a new data module and since I'm new to them perhaps I over looked something, but when I use a framework created package, I can right click on a data element within the package in the Insertable Object pane and filter it.  With a data module, I don't have that option?  It's nice because for an entry user, it's less steps to be able to select a data element in that pane, right click and filter, rather than drag the element over to the report or query then filter.

Am I missing something in setting up my data module to be able to use the same functionality?  You'd think at a report creation level, a data module would at least have the same options to use as a package?

    Thanks!

Just for a little more clarification on this.  We are currently on 11.1.5, I am using Google Chrome.  Below are two screenshots.  The first image is from a package, I can right click on a particular data item in the Insertable objects pane and I have the ability to filter the report.

The second image is from a Data Module, and I can't seem to get that Filter for Report to show, like in a package.

    Hello Jeff,

    Trying to answer your question:
    * The QueryStudio feature is not available in ReportStudio
    * In Reportstudio you can add filters as soon as you have the column in the report
    * You can set filters in the Queries, in the layout by clicking the column and when viewing the report result.
    * I especially like the new dialog in the report viewer very much.

Coming from QS the filter topics leave room for improvement.

    Hope this helps.

This is a feature that's not currently available when using a data module. We have been collecting customer feedback on some feature gaps in order to prioritize them.
In the past, customers have told us that filter for report from metadata tree isn't very discoverable. It also isn't clear where the filter is being added if the report has multiple data containers with multiple queries. The filter only get added to one query, not the entire report. The functionality is confusing.
We would like to provide an easier way for report users to filter data. There is a re-design of the filter workflow going into a future release.
