Thank you for your stream, Ryan! It was great introduction to the CA 11.1.7. Just for information, IBM just released Release Notes to the CA 11.1.7 -  https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J_11.1.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ca_new.doc/c_ca_nf_11_1_7_container.html

    Hi Ryan,

As always, a brilliant job done by you and your team.
Say hi to Paul Mendleson for me, ages since I last met up with him at a conference.

    Regards

Thanks Ryan for very good and interactive session yesterday.

Some of the questions I have to see if there are better ways in CA 11.1.7 on Cloud:-
    • Is Incremental datasets load  supported natively?
    • Is Bursting option available in  Scheduling Interface?
    • Can we change file name dyrnamically from Scheduling/Email Interface?
    • On Cloud, Do we need to have Watson Studio to get access to Jupyter Notebook to read and write to CA?

    Buddhi,

Thank you for tuning in! I'll do my best to answer your questions here:

    1. Data sets don't have native incremental load as far as I can tell. May be possible to accomplish something with the API but I haven't had time to test it yet.
    2. It appears that bursting works just fine via the new interface provided you've configured the report to be a burst report
    3. There's no option to dynamically change the file name from the scheduling interface. The burst process can accomplish this though.
    4. I can't actually test this so what I can tell you is that my understanding is that you are correct, access to Jupyter for cloud customers is via Watson Studio.

    Cheers!
    Ryan

Re  "Data sets don't have native incremental load as far as I can tell...."

Is the question, can you append vs straight replace?

That's how I interpreted it. I know you can with excel files but I haven't seen that ability with data sets. lmk if I'm wrong.

    Hi @NIGEL CAMPBELL,

We don't want to reload all previous dates data as it increases Load time. Only data for new dates (or any other criteria) to be added to same Dataset.

Question is whether it's addressed in CA 11.1.7 or planned to be added as FP for LTS release. Most of other BI tools give that option for Extract.

Can it be done via reporting interface now available in CA 11.1.7?

    Thank you for any inputs!

    Thanks @Ryan Dolley!

You mentioned to use all SQLs in single Data module.  I see below additional observations:-
    • If we have more objects in data module, it seems DM and reports performance is impacted
    • We don't have search of column available for SQL Based Objects using search button
    • SQL Objects don't seem to have sorting option enabled.
    • If I change data source link in source, it doesn't get updated in SQL source.
    • Naming of data items for SQL based objects is different compared to when using Data Server Objects. i.e. I have to qualify names within SQL to set desired names.

    Buddhi,

Yes, that's correct. There are limitations to the method I advocate, unfortunately nothing is perfect. However you should follow PMsquare to see some of the enhancements we've been working on - sorting and searching in data modules is something we're developing an extension to solve which will be made public soon.

    Cheers!
