Did you know that Cognos Analytics can generate an interactive dashboard from your data automatically? Often the hardest part of building a dashboard is the blank page syndrome, where you don't know how to get going. By starting with a generated dashboard, you immediately get past that hump and can work with the suggested content that was generated for you, to create your ultimate dashboard.
Automatic dashboards have been available for a while from the Cognos Assistant. This can be done interactively using either the menu item under "More" in the Assistant, or with commands like "create dashboard" (which will look at the entire data source holistically) or "create dashboard from this chart" (which will base the dashboard on the last Assistant response).
Creating automatic dashboards just got way easier!
Brand new in the April 2024 release of Cognos is a new way that makes it even easier to generate a dashboard! You can now do this directly through either the "Upload and create" or "Create from existing data" tiles. These 2 flows contain a new recommended option "Automatic dashboard" which will allow you to go straight from uploading or selecting data, to a fully functional dashboard that you can use as the basis for your creation.
You can still choose to start with a blank dashboard if you prefer, that's always available under "Other options"
Here's an example of a dashboard that Cognos was able to generate automatically from a spreadsheet that was just uploaded. As you can see its a great starting point for your creative process.
