I'm thrilled to announce IBM Cognos Analytics with Watson 11.2.1! Its available
now for our on-premises customers and coming very soon for our cloud customers.
This version builds on the incredible new capabilities we introduced with Cognos Analytics 11.2.0. And it also brings a new name. Yes, you read that correctly, Cognos is now "with Watson". That means it is part of the IBM Watson family, as Cognos continues to offer extensive AI features built on the legendary Watson AI technology.
You can read the new name announcement here.Let's take a quick look at what else is new with this release.
Visualization Features
Visualizing data is at the core of what Cognos does, and so we've continued to add charting innovations in this release. There are some incredible new mapping features, such as the ability to render 3-D extrusions and hex-bin groupings. These are especially powerful in analyzing high-density geographical data.
We are also introducing a new 'donut' chart. This builds on the capabilities of our existing pie chart, but with a lot more options.
Data Access Features
The other function that is core to Cognos is being able to access any kind of data. So we have added support for Dremio. Adding Dremio as a supported data source will enable you to run accelerated data lake queries on NoSQL & Hadoop sources, local and distributed filesystems, and databases like Azure Data Lake Store
Amazon S3, Amazon Glue, Google Cloud Storage, HDFS, MapR-FS, Elasticsearch, Hive, HBase, and more.
IBM Cloud SQL Query will also be supported in 11.2.1. This will allow you to directly query files stored in IBM Cloud Object Store.
Reporting Improvements
Many of your rely on our industry-leading reporting capabilities to run your business. And so we've made several improvements to reporting as well. Tabbed reports will get a very significant performance boost, as you can now set tabs to render individually. Other improvements include the ability to copy values from HTML report output, and using the Search & Select prompt with Data Modules.
You can read much more about what's new in Reporting here.
Usability Enhancements
Cognos Analytics 11.2 delivered a revolutionary new user experience. With 11.2.1 we continue to make improvements. We now fully persist the state between sessions when navigating content, so your view will always look the same next time you login to Cognos The content view is now available from the central drop-down switcher as well, for simpler and more efficient navigation, and renaming a file is now right in the item's context menu.
Our Event Studio users will be excited to hear that Event Studio is now fully supported in Google Chrome. And we've enhanced our Accessibility to comply with the latest IBM Accessibility 7.2 standards.
Conclusion
These are just some of the highlights. There is so much more to IBM Cognos Analytics 11.2.1, and we can't wait for you to try it!
