I agree. We always say its far easier for someone to comment on what's in front of them and say why it's wrong than start with a blank sheet.
That's a good point - Having the AI assistant explain why it created the specific dashboard and prompt what kind of dashboard would be helpful.
It's important to distinguish that while the experienced developer may be able to specify what kind of dashboard they need and what the use case may be, a new user typically can't.
It is a significant difference and improvement to have a selection of automatically generated charts to use as a starting point instead of a blank canvas.
The automatic dashboard generation is designed to help first-time users lower the learning curve for people using the tool for the first time and getting started.

Experienced Developer: "why?"
Whilst I get the create dashboard is a shiny sales demo feature, a more intelligent assistant would ask about what the dashboard is to be used for. It would be good if after creating the dashboard the AI assistant could list out why it created that dashboard, what insights it hopes to help the user uncover, rather than just a random selection of charts.
