Cognos Analytics

Storytelling was introduced in Cognos Analytics 11.0.4, and continues to grow with each release.

In Cognos Analytics 11.0.5 we introduced three exciting new capabilities, Infographic Summary, animations and a new story arc titled Guided journey.

Infographic Summary

The infographic summary provides a mechanism to easily visualize your data utilizing the built-in shapes available in dashboards in lieu of a standard number.

When creating an infographic summary, you have the ability to use a measure directly but by default the space available is filled with an optimal number of shapes. From the legend, you can select to show fewer or more items. When utilizing a percentage value, you have the choice of a single, 10 or 100 items.

The final option you have is the fill direction, either sideways or bottom to top. All the other visualization properties apply in terms of color and label.



Animations

With Cognos Analytics 11.0.5, in addition to fade in and out, users can now select to have items slide in from the top, bottom, left or right of a scene.

This is set by selecting the widget you wish to animate and opening the properties pane, and selecting the animation tab.



Guided Journey

With Cognos Analytics 11.0.5, we are adding additional story arcs in the form of Guided journey.

There are two new templates under Guided journey.



These two layouts allow you to start and end with an overview of the entire story and to pan and zoom between each of the scene to create an engaging presentation experience. If you create more scenes, then those provided as a starting point the pattern will automatically repeat for as long as you need.

You do not need to have the scene played in the order in which they appear. From scene selector view you can drag and drop scenes to adjust the order in which they appear as you navigate through the story. When in the overview you can see numbers in the bottom right hand corner of each scene, these represent the order in which the scenes will be played.

If you want to move a scene to a specific position in the layout, you can accomplish this by dragging and dropping scenes in the overview.
