Finding Tabular Data in Cognos 11 and 11.1 versus 10.2.2

By Katie McCray posted Mon February 25, 2019 04:59 PM

Remembering back to when I was new to using Cognos 11.1 reporting, there was a small moment of panic as I thought, "They took away my ability to run tabular data!" Fortunately, it simply was not true. The placement merely moved. Whew!

Like many of you reading this, I've used Cognos for many years to create powerful, actionable, and high performing reports. The ability to iteratively play and test our queries at a granular level is a crucial feature to achieving this for our business users. So, I thought I'd save you from the "almost panic" I went through and share this small, but important, piece of information.

Were you looking for this feature in the latest release as well? If so, let us know in the comments below.

Below are the different ways to run tabular data in:
  • Cognos Business Intelligence 10.2.2
  • Cognos Analytics 11.0.X
  • Cognos Analytics 11.1

Cognos 11 Tabular Data

In case you cannot see the image above, here are the text descriptions of where to find the tabular data option:
  • Cognos 10.2.2: In Report Studio, Click on the Query Explorer in the vertical center toolbar. Right click on the query. Choose View Tabular Data.
  • Cognos 11.0.x: In Reporting, Click on the Queries icon on the left menu bar. Right click on the query. Choose View Tabular Data.
  • Cognos 11.1: In Reporting, Click on the breadcrumb at the top called Report. In the dropdown, click on Queries. Right click on the query. Choose View Tabular Data.
