IBM Cognos Analytics 11.1.6 Notebooks now give users the ability to script and run R code against governed Cognos data in addition to Python 3!

R Kernel Support in Notebooks

Enabling Python and R scripts within the Cognos ecosystem has significant value:

  • Advance data analysts can script against governed and centralized data (Single version of the truth)
  • Report authors can build reports shaped and transformed (ETL) by Python and R scripts
  • Report authors can embed functions, custom visualizations etc. created by advanced data analysts
  • Advanced data analysts can schedule and share their assets with other BI users with the right security, permissions and governance
  • Empower all BI users with advanced predictive analytics

Additional R packages can be installed either at build-time by administrators or at runtime by users. This provides flexibility in how R packages are installed, whether they be permanent system-wide packages shared by all users or temporary packages confined to the environment of a single notebook user.
