“Your data, your visuals” – Schematics in Reports with IBM Cognos Analytics 11.1.5

By KASUN ATTANAPOLA posted Fri December 20, 2019 11:55 AM

With Cognos Analytics 11.1.5 report authors can now visualize data on a variety of custom graphics, such as illustrations, diagrams and maps via a new feature called “schematics”. Popular examples include airplane seating, floor maps, engine maps, stadium seating etc.

Our approach is to use decorated Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) files as the basis for the custom graphic and to provide matching of data to the decorations in the SVG to facilitate rendering of values.

Like with custom JavaScript-based visualizations released in 11.1.4, schematic developers can build, validate and compile custom schematics into shareable assets that can be uploaded directly to Cognos Analytics. These uploaded schematics will behave just like our out-of-the-box visualizations with the proper permissions and governance behind it.

For 11.1.5 this capability will be available in reporting only. Schematics will be available in dashboards and stories in a future release.
