Visual Modeling with an Actionable Diagram

In all versions of Cognos Analytics, a diagram of the table relationships within a data module has helped data modelers understand how their data sets are connected.
Now the diagram is more than just a visual aid in that you can perform actions on the tables and joins directly from diagram (in prior versions such actions were exclusively supported from the data module tree). This is something that comes naturally to new users especially since the diagram tends to occupy most of the screen.
In the spirit of
IBM Design Thinking
, we studied first time users’ behaviors and noticed instinctual inclinations to attempt the following gestures, so we added them into 11.0.3:
Create or edit joins from the diagram
Create or edit filters from the diagram
Rename or remove tables from the diagram
Drag and drop tables from source panel directly onto the diagram
Right-click on a table or relationship in the diagram to see its context menu actions
Drag and drop columns from tree into the expression editor
For additional information and to see these features in action checkout the following video
