Cognos on mobile devices is getting simpler and more powerful with the IBM Cognos mobile app

By Tim Aston posted yesterday

Cognos today offers outstanding mobile device support through 2 apps.  Our long-lived Reports app lets you view a variety of report types on your phone or iPad, and gives you alert when new report versions are delivered to you. Our new Analytics app gives you insights at a glance with pin boards, pro-active alerts and the Cognos AI Assistant.

The Two Shall Become One

Going forward, we feel it is easier for our valued customers to have ONE app to focus on.  So we have announced that we are deprecating the Reports app, and adding it's functionality to the new Analytics App.

This single app will be known going forward as simple the IBM Cognos app.

These are 4 main features that we are adding:

  • Runs on iPads in addition to smart phones NOW AVAILABLE
  • View standard reports (Classic viewer and Interactive Viewer) NOW AVAILABLE IN PREVIEW
  • View Active Reports NOW AVAILABLE IN PREVIEW
  • Get push notifications for new report versions COMING SOON

These are in addition to the incredible feature that app already supports:

  • Pin boards to arrange your visualizations
  • Pro-active alerts when your data changes
  • Integrated AI assistant

Note that most of the features are available when using the app with any supported Cognos server version.  You don't need to upgrade your server for these new capabilities, just the app.

Moving from the Reports App

No migration will be needed.  Simply start using the IBM Cognos app instead of the Reports app.  In the fall of 2026, we will remove the Reports app from the app stores, but you can keep using it until that time.  We expect the reporting features to come out of preview early in 2026.

I posted a video that walks through many of these features.  Check it out here!
