My Ultimate IBM Mentor

We are wired to learn from our mistakes and, teach others efficient tricks we have discovered. My ultimate mentor is an industry professional who will guide me in the early days of my career. We all have different qualities. I understand that you can have mentors for a variety of subjects.

As a student, I am more focused on establishing my career. It would be great to have a mentor to help me develop myself and be ready to work in the industry. They can play a coaching role whereby they prepare me for the upcoming task and share tips and tricks on how to complete it successfully. I want A flexible mentor who is open-minded and has a wide range of experience in enterprise computing.

Their teaching style is essential to consider, it helps to have one-on-one sessions, be it virtual or physical. They give me the freedom to have natural conversations with my mentor and ask questions as they come. When it comes to learning technical skills, I prefer to have guided training. I like to start with the basics and have the complexity of the problems increase over time.

Throughout the training, I want to meet people who will absorb me in their organizations to advance my skills. Coming from a technical background, I understand the importance of preparing well for a task. As an innovative thinker, the organization that will absorb me will have an employee who can find new ways of solving problems. I prefer an environment that allows mutual relationships to prosper, where you and your mentor learn from each other.

A program like IBM's new collar apprenticeship program is ideal for me to join, and the Open Mainframe Project mentorship program. They offer the opportunity to join a learn-while-you-earn skills training and career development opportunities. During training, you have access to a mentor who will guide you to become a better version of yourself. You learn their ways of solving problems and getting tasks done. The field of specialization I am interested in is information technology security.
