Women in Data Science (WiDS) Summary at IBM in 2022
In 2022, IBMers are leading or speaking at 9 WiDS Regional events.  Teams of IBMers are also competing in both phases of the WiDS Datathon 2022 (a kaggle contest). IBMer Dr. Jaione Tirapu-Azpiroz also ran one Datathon workshop to on-board colleagues onto the WiDS Datathon.
In addition, IBMers attended at the WiDS conference at Stanford University on March 7, 2022 and IBM Fellow g.

WiDS Regional Events in 2022 involving IBMers:

At least 600 attendees from a variety of companies and universities participated in the various regional WiDS events led by IBMers (who registered as WiDS Ambassadors)  or events that involved IBM speakers. The following is a summary list with links to further information:

• WiDS Rio de Janeiro @ IBM : This was a WiDS Datathon on-boarding workshop on December 20, 2021, led Dr. Jaione Tirapu-Azpiroz, to demonstrate how to engage in the Titanic beginners' contest as preparation for the WiDS Datathon 2022.

• WiDS Research Triangle @ IBM. held on  About 80 attendees learned from Data Scientists Rebecca James (Data Scientist IBM Expert Labs), Victoria Lopez Miranda (Lead Data Scientist IBM CIO), Katrien Mooney (Data Scientist IBM Technology Support Services), and Eliza Salkeld (Senior Data Scientist Fidelity Investments) during a panel led by Caryn Woodruff (Director of Business Technology, IBM Technology Support Services). They also had the opportunity to ask the panel their own questions. This session was followed by "How to Market Yourself as a Female Technologist", by Kathryn Guarini, IBM CIO. Kathryn shared her journey to leadership and how she started her own blog. Finally they ended the day with a networking activity and workshop led by Brianne Boldrin, IBM AI Technical Specialist. Participants learned about manual and automated features of Watson Studio and the steps and tools for solving a business problem with Data Science.

• WiDS UAE 2022 : This event was in-person along with a livestream and held at Heriot Watt university in Dubai on May 21. WiDS Datathon 2022 (Links will be fixed later today June 7)
In 2022, the top ranked IBM team was team Sunflower (Zhuo Ling,  Feng Yuan, Han Yan Yan, Li Shuang) from IBM China who were ranked 15 out of 829 teams overall.  Congratulations! We are also proud of IBMer Olga Vilenskaia in the team that was ranked number 4! Now the teams are working on Phase 2 :  Excellence in Research Award which closes at the end of June 2022. Stanford University are providing guidance and workshops on how to write research papers for those who are new to publishing. Many congratulations to all the IBMers who participated.
