This blog entry quickly outlines the basics steps to download and install IBM Rational Application Developer 8.5 trial from www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/r/r... I did not download IBM Installation Manager, I went straight to the RAD downloads via Download Director.

The items above were the options that are available for the RAD installation. The options in Red I did not download. Total Size: 12.6 GB I have a high speed network, so it only took an hour or so to download the entire RAD set of packages I have chosen. 11GB is a lot to download, make sure you have the time. Expanded RAD setup I expanded the *_1.zip files into the current folder I then launched the install -> Note, I have IBM Installation Manager 1.5.3 already installed as I use WebSphere Application Server a lot. I did this as I did not want to expand all the files into the wrong location. I loaded the IBMIM installer and it did not complain about not finding files, so I am expanding all in to the same location i.e. expand to current folder. Let us now try an d run the installation of RAD 8.5 Ckick Next Select only the RAD install, unless you have downloaded all the addons etc. Click Next Click Next You can choose to extend an existing Eslipse workbench Click Next Click Next Select Features required for your development. "No!, Spring is not included!" Click Next until tyou get to the summay and review. Notice I chose to installthe Liberty Profile. Good for local Application Server development testing. Click install and let the magic begin Click Finish and Launch RAD Creat and Eclipse workspace We are done.

Enjoy!
