Maintaining the Network Installation Manager (NIM) server at the latest level is crucial in a NIM environment. Before migrating any logical partition (LPAR) that acts as a NIM client, it is recommended to first migrate the NIM server. Migrating a NIM server to the latest level can be complex.
This tutorial outlines two simplified approaches for migrating the NIM server to the latest IBM AIX release:

  • Migration using the virtual media library
  • Migration using the alt_disk_mksysb command
