Troubleshooting automation issues often requires reviewing execution logs but accessing these logs one run at a time can be inefficient. To address this challenge, IBM RPA Control Center now enables users to download logs directly from the Bot Runs and Process Instance Step Runs pages. This enhancement simplifies access to execution data, streamlines troubleshooting, and supports faster resolution of automation issues.
1. Download Bot Run Logs
Users can now download logs for bot runs with Finished or Failed statuses directly from the Bot Runs page, without navigating into each run individually. Role-based access control ensures that only users with permissions to view or manage bot runs can access and download these logs, maintaining compliance and protecting sensitive operational data.
Each downloaded ZIP file includes two log types:
- Server-side action logs, which capture orchestrator-level operations and interactions.
- Client-side execution logs, which record detailed runtime activities on the bot’s execution environment.
Together, these logs provide a comprehensive view of both orchestration and execution, helping teams quickly diagnose issues and verify successful automation performance.

2. Download Process Instance Step Run Logs
Similarly, logs for Process Instance Step Runs with Done or Failed statuses can now be downloaded directly from the corresponding page. This enhancement is particularly useful when investigating multi-step process executions, as it allows users to isolate and analyze issues at the step level with minimal navigation. Role-based permissions apply here as well, ensuring secure access to execution data.

Beyond log retrieval, this capability enhances the overall troubleshooting experience in IBM RPA Control Center. Users can leverage the Log Details page to view error messages and related context, making it easier to identify failure points and understand the cause of execution issues. With direct access to both server and client logs, users can perform root cause analysis more efficiently—whether investigating runtime errors, connectivity issues, or orchestration-level exceptions. This end-to-end visibility reduces diagnostic time and supports faster corrective action.
Starting in IBM RPA 30.0.1, users can take advantage of the new Download Logs feature for both bot and process step runs, making troubleshooting and data review much easier. Users can access it from the Bot Runs and Process Instance Step Runs pages in the web interface.
