Future-Proof Your Automation with IBM’s Support Cycle-3

By Shipra Shaw posted 16 hours ago

As we move into the future of intelligent automation, IBM continues to lead the way with its robust and forward-thinking platform—IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation. With future releases, IBM is setting the stage for a more stable, feature-rich, and support-optimized experience for its clients.

What’s Coming in future releases

IBM intends to have all major release on Support Cycle 3. 2026 onwards new versions are expected to deliver:

  • A robust and extremely stable platform

  • New features and enhancements tailored to evolving business needs

  • Adoption of Support Cycle-3, offering longer-term technical support and lifecycle stability

This release is designed to be a cornerstone for organizations seeking a dependable automation foundation with long-term viability.

Upgrade Path Guidance for Existing Clients

IBM has provided a clear roadmap for clients currently using earlier versions of the platform. For more details see Statement of Direction.

For 25.0.0 Clients:

  • You’re already on the latest release as of 2025.

  • Explore the new features announced in Software Announcement AD25-0914 (June 20, 2025).

  • You’ll be well-positioned to upgrade directly to 26.0.0 when it becomes available.

For 24.0.x Clients:

IBM offers two distinct paths depending on your priorities:

1. Stability-Focused Clients (24.0.0)

  • If your primary goal is platform stability and you don’t require the new features in 25.0.0, you can continue using 24.0.0.

  • You’ll be able to upgrade directly to future versions starting 2026. See our latest announcement to get for insight.

2. Feature-Adopting Clients (24.0.1)

  • If you’re on 24.0.1 and want to move to 26.0.0, you’ll need to follow a two-step upgrade:

    1. Upgrade to 25.0.0

    2. Then upgrade to future versions

This ensures compatibility and a seamless transition to the new platform.

Technical Support Evolution: Support Cycle-3

With future major release versions, IBM plans to adopt Support Cycle-3, a significant shift in its support lifecycle strategy. This means:

  • Extended support timelines

  • Greater predictability for IT planning

  • Enhanced stability for mission-critical environments

However, it’s important to note that version 25.0.0 will not be moved to Support Cycle-3, so clients seeking long-term support should plan their upgrade path accordingly.

Final Thoughts

IBM’s roadmap for Cloud Pak for Business Automation reflects a thoughtful balance between innovation and stability. Whether you're looking to adopt the latest features or maintain a rock-solid automation foundation, IBM provides a clear path forward.

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the 2026 release. In the meantime, evaluate your current version, assess your business needs, and plan your upgrade strategy to make the most of what IBM has to offer.
