Join us at IBM TechXchange 2025 in Orlando, FL. from October 6-9 for hands-on labs, 1,000+ expert speakers, free certifications, and early access to the latest developments in IBM tape and Virtual tape.

In 2024 digital tape, energized by LTO, achieved record capacity growth. Tape is the most reliable and proven technology for long-term digital storage. Tape is not only the most cost-efficient storage technology for archives, but also the most durable storage, with 17-nines of archive durability in a single copy of tape and no bit-rot users are confident data on tape stays on tape. Oft overlooked is the fact that tape is air gapped by design, it is the only storage media that goes off-line as soon as writing or reading is completed. That offline data state results in the most energy efficient storage for long term retention of data, as little as <10% of the energy used by equivalent HDD infrastructure.
Now tape is as simple to use as HDD or a managed cloud service. Tape, like HDD and SSD, is just a hardware medium that is part of a larger solution. Tape is now directly integrated as a hybrid cloud object storage. The integrated IBM Deep Archive with S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval (S3GFR) interface eliminates the need for tape skills, enables flexible use cases without dedicated server connectivity for ISVs and enables any application that supports S3GFR to get the benefits of tape.
IBM has a long history in the development of Virtual tape systems, developing the most widely accepted Virtual Tape System for mainframes with the TS7700 family. IBM has big news on the horizon with the Virtual Tape Library family that will be presented at TechXchange.
Sign up today to learn how tape is saving the data centers from energy extinction while optimizing data storage with a security minded approach.
