Mainframes and music are deeply intertwined.
In 1961, the IBM 7094, a powerful high-end mainframe computer, was the first to ever "sing" by performing the song "Daisy Bell" at Bell Labs. This pioneering event, using computer synthesized voice, later inspired the famous scene in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
For IBM Z Day, we connected with our global community to showcase the music that resonates with them - music that evokes memories of their career journeys, the technology we work with, and the community we belong to. From band members to cruise singers to DJs, and even to our music-loving IBM Z Skills team, it brought us great joy to be able to celebrate IBM Z Day by sharing the music that moves the mainframe.
Having FOMO that you didn’t share your songs – let us know in the comments your song, artist and why.
