Satellite Connector Licensing for Planning Analytics on Cloud

By SAMI EL CHEIKH posted Wed August 07, 2024 09:47 AM

As we prepare to release Satellite Connector functionality into Planning Analytic on Cloud to replace Secure Gateway in August 2024, we wanted to detail the licensing model for utilizing Satellite Connector and what’s included with your purchase of Planning Analytics on Cloud.

Satellite Connectors provide a secure connection between a specific remote location and IBM Cloud. Each connector needs at least one Satellite Agent running in your location to establish the connection. Each Satellite Connector can connect to multiple environments, support up to 6 Satellite agents and a maximum of 35 endpoints. Endpoints represent the service the Satellite Connector is accessing similar to a Secure Gateway Destination.

So for example, if you had a development and a production environment, a single Satellite Connector can connect across your environments and support up to 35 endpoints or connections across those environments. It is important to note that although a Satellite Connector is visible across environments, endpoints created in each environment will only be visible in those environments where they have been created. For more information on Satellite Connector terminology compared to Secure Gateway please reference the following document.

Each Planning Analytics on Cloud customer will be entitled to one Satellite Connector. If there is a need to go beyond 35 endpoints across environments, you will need to purchase each additional Satellite Connector separately as an add-on. Each Satellite Connector is licensed on a per month basis. The part associated with the Satellite Connector add-on is targeting an availability at launch of the Satellite Connector functionality. For more information please contact your sales representative.

It is now already the middle of August. When can we expect the Satellite Connector to be available? The time available to us until the end of September for the migration is getting shorter and shorter.

Hi @SAMI EL CHEIKH,

Given it is mid-August, could you please advise when it will be available for customer?

Thanks,

Yan

Hi @Simon Mehnert thank you for your comment.

Each customer will get one Satellite Connector out of the box. This will work across all your environments with a maximum limit of 35 endpoints (gateways) across all your environments.  Each environment can be migrated to Satellite separately so you can start with dev for example.

To install the satellite agent, it is similar to the Secure gateway client and the requirements can be found here Satellite Connector overview | IBM Cloud Docs

Cheers,
Sami E.

It was my understanding that for each cloud environment a corresponding  windows Satellite Connector service is required.  With each serivce connecting to many client sources.

So, in our case we have both a Development and Production cloud environment we intend to have 2 windows VM'S.

Please clarify...

Also, please confirm that although its being rolled out in August the Gateway is not being depreivated until October ?
