IBM Storage Defender 2.0.13: Enhanced Data Resiliency and User Experience

By Sachin Jadhav posted Thu April 24, 2025 06:40 AM

IBM Storage Defender, an advanced solution in data protection and resiliency, has released its latest update with version 2.0.13, introducing several new features and enhancements. This update aims to enhance data management efficiency and user experience.

IBM Storage FlashSystem VM Recovery Enhancement

A notable update in this release is the IBM Storage FlashSystem recovery feature. This enhancement allows the recovery of a single VM with multiple datastores that are associated with IBM Storage FlashSystem volume groups. Previously, VMDK files of a single datastore could only be located in a single IBM Storage FlashSystem volume group. Now, these files can be spread across different datastores located in different IBM Storage FlashSystem volume groups.

This improvement provides more flexibility and efficiency in VM recovery processes.

Enhanced Application Awareness

The Data Resiliency Service has been further refined to include app awareness for Microsoft Active Directory, IBM® Db2®, and IBM Storage FlashSystem. In the previous version, users could only collect the inventory of these resources. Now, Data Resiliency Service can automatically generate recovery groups and governance profiles for Microsoft Active Directory and IBM Db2 resources. Additionally, primary storage groups that are based on IBM Storage FlashSystem can be auto-grouped.

These enhancements streamline the management of critical resources, ensuring data resiliency and governance.

Dark Theme Introduction

A dark theme for the management console is introduced for visual comfort and efficiency in low-light environments. You can choose a light, dark, or system default theme as per your comfort.

Automatic Recovery Group Generation for IBM Storage FlashSystem Volumes

Previously, Data Resiliency Service could not automatically create recovery groups for IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes that are not utilized in a VMware environment. Now, Data Resiliency Service automatically generates recovery groups for IBM Storage FlashSystem volumes that are not used in a VMware context.

This feature simplifies the management of storage resources, ensuring data resiliency across different environments.

By introducing seamless VM recovery, improved application awareness, a modernized user interface, and automated data management processes, this update empowers organizations to better protect their critical data and applications, minimize downtime, and ensure business continuity.
