We are excited to announce that IBM DataPower® 10.6.5 released October 6th, 2025 provides a new sub-capacity enabled deployment option via Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). KVM is an open-source Linux technology that enables the Linux kernel to support virtualized workloads, effectively turning the host system into a hypervisor that can be used as an alternative to proprietary virtualization technologies. The KVM capability is built into the Linux kernel, providing a user-friendly interface and easy deployment options. DataPower Gateway for KVM enables the deployment of a DataPower Gateway as a KVM on Linux®
Same great DataPower; greater flexibility!
DataPower Gateway for KVM is available at no extra charge. It is simply another deployment option available to DataPower Gateway Virtual Edition customers via the 10.6.5 release or higher. This new KVM deployment option adds to the existing deployment options of Docker, RHEL and OVA.

Non-IBM Third party KVM Providers
There are third party providers of KVM capabilities that streamline the management of KVM deployments, however these do not qualify for the same level of support as KVM on RHEL. Customers who choose to run DataPower Gateway for KVM with third party KVM service providers will still receive support for DataPower Gateway for KVM itself - but any issues that cannot be replicated in IBM Support’s standard KVM environment will be assumed to be an issue with the third party provider’s implementation that should be worked through that third party.
