Nachdem wir hier schon über die Ankündigung der neuen IBM z17 in einem Blogeintrag berichtet und beim IBM Z Symposium gebührend gefeiert haben, möchte ich heute auf das Preview vom z/OS 3.2 hinweisen.
Vielleicht ist dieses Preview bei einigen untergegangen, da am 08.04. die neue IBM z17 im Fokus stand. Aber was wäre Hardware ohne ein Betriebssystem, dass die neuen Funktionen auch richtig nutzt?
Mit z/OS 3.2 erwarten uns viele neue Funktionen, z.B.:
- Unterstützung der hardwarebeschleunigten KI-Funktionen über die Telum II Data Processing Unit (DPU), den IBM Z Integrated Accelerator for AI (AIU) und den IBM Spyre AI Accelerator (letzterer voraussichtlich im vierten Quartal ).
- Vereinfachung und konsistente Syntaxvalidierung der z/OS PARMLIB-Member über REST-APIs
- Bereitstellung von REST-APIs und eine Benutzeroberfläche für das Speichermanagement, um eine konsistente und intuitive Benutzeroberfläche für „neue“ Speicheradministratoren zu schaffen, damit diese z/OS-Speichermanagementaufgaben ausführen können.
- Fortführung der Pervasive Encryption Stategy – durch direkte Verschlüsselung auf Band.
- RACF userid containment (u.a. auch als Ecosystem support for IBM Threat Detection for z/OS (TDz))
- … und noch vieles mehr.
z/OS 3.2 soll auf folgenden Servern betrieben werden können:
- IBM z17 ME1
- IBM z16 Model A01 und A02
- IBM z15 Models T01 und T02

After reporting on the announcement of the new IBM z17 in a blog post and celebrating it at the IBM Z Symposium, I'd like to highlight the preview of z/OS 3.2 today.
Some of you might have missed this preview, as the new IBM z17 had the focus of attention on April 8th. But what would hardware be without an operating system that properly utilizes the new features?
Many new features await us with z/OS 3.2, including:
- Support for hardware-accelerated AI capabilities via the Telum II Data Processing Unit (DPU), the IBM Z Integrated Accelerator for AI (AIU), and the IBM Spyre AI Accelerator (the latter expected in the fourth quarter).
- Simplifying PARMLIB administration through automatic and consistent syntax validation of z/OS PARMLIB members via REST APIs. Providing REST APIs and a storage management user interface to create a consistent and intuitive user interface for "new" storage administrators to perform z/OS storage management tasks.
- Continuing the Pervasive Encryption Strategy – through direct encryption to tape.
- RACF user ID containment (also as ecosystem support for IBM Threat Detection for z/OS (TDz)) ... and much more.
z/OS 3.2 is planned to operate on the following IBM Z servers:
- IBM z17 ME1
- IBM z16 Model A01 and A02
