Certificate Template Mismatch Alerts

By Prateek Soni posted Thu May 29, 2025 07:05 AM

Introduction

In today's fast-paced digital world, ensuring the smooth operation of your devices is crucial. One common issue that can disrupt your deployment is the mismatch or deletion of certificate templates configured via policy. This problem often goes unnoticed until a device stops receiving certificates, leading to service interruptions and the need for support tickets and intervention from the support team.

The Challenge

Many customers have encountered situations where Cloud Extenders (CEs) with the certificate module configured are missing certificate templates that were set up in the policy. This can happen due to template configuration mismatches across different CEs or accidental deletion by administrators. The impact is significant: devices stop receiving certificates, leading to operational disruptions and the need for reactive support.

A Proactive Solution

To address this challenge, MaaS360 propose a proactive solution that leverages the portal's awareness of configured policies and recently uploaded templates via CEs. By implementing a portal alert system, MaaS360 can notify administrators of any discrepancies in certificate templates before they affect deployment.

How It Works

  1. Background Job: A background job in the portal backend periodically compares the certificate templates uploaded by CEs. If it detects any discrepancies, such as template configuration mismatches or missing templates across CEs with the certificate module configured, it will enqueue a portal alert.

  2. Notification: The portal alert will notify administrators via activity feeds on home page, email, and SMS, allowing them to take corrective action proactively.

Benefits

  • Preemptive Action: Receiving alerts before issues impact deployment allows administrators to promptly address template mismatches or deletions, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations.
  • Reduced Downtime: Proactive notifications prevent service interruptions, ensuring devices operate smoothly with no downtime.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Administrators can focus on resolving issues before they escalate, improving overall efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Conclusion

Setting up a portal alert system for certificate template mismatches revolutionizes proactive certificate management. It notifies administrators of issues before they impact deployment, ensuring smoother operations, less downtime, and greater efficiency. Stay ahead and keep your deployment running smoothly with this proactive approach.
