We are pleased to announce the general availability of IBM^® Semeru Runtime™ Certified Edition for z/OS^® v11.0.29.0, v17.0.17.0 and v21.0.9.0 (4Q25 Quarterly Update). These releases contain enhancement and fixes along with the latest security update from OpenJDK 11.0.29+5, 17.0.17+7 and 21.0.9+9 (Oct'25 CPU Update) respectively. The binaries have been made available on our standard distribution sites as on 27^th Nov 2025.

New Features and Key Contents in IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS 11.0.29.0, 17.0.17.0 and 21.0.9.0:

• This release contains features from the latest release of the Eclipse OpenJ9 project, as listed in the Version 0.54.0, Version 0.55.0, and Version 0.56.0 OpenJ9 user documentation.
• JZOS enhancement: The getCobolString method is a new addition to the StringField class. (v17+)

Known Issue: Initiating the Java Batch Launcher and Toolkit for z/OS (JZOS) Toolkit with z/OS System Management Facility (SMF) 121 from a Job Control Language (JCL) script might cause an ABEND with error code S422 U0000 under CN(INTERNAL). Until a resolution is implemented, use the previous Java 21 release (21.0.8.0 or earlier version) for JZOS functions.
