IBM Champion Spotlight: Mohamed Gaber

Shaping the Future of Enterprise AI

This month, we are proud to shine a light on Mohamed Gaber, an Applications Architect at the Saudi Electricity Company and a visionary IBM Champion, whose work epitomizes technical excellence and strategic innovation in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Mohamed’s expertise is rooted in IBM watsonx Assistant, a platform he values for its seamless integration, advanced natural language capabilities, and ability to manage sophisticated conversational flows.

A First-of-Its-Kind Achievement

His most significant achievement extends far beyond a single solution; it represents a bold step into the future of enterprise AI. He recently architected and delivered a first-of-its-kind generative AI platform for a leading Saudi bank, masterfully integrating IBM watsonx Orchestrate, NVIDIA inference microservices (NIM) and Red Hat OpenShift AI.

Mohamed’s work brings to life IBM’s commitment to unlocking the full potential of AI through strategic partnerships and integrated solutions, exemplified by the integration of IBM watsonx offerings with NVIDIA NIM. His implementation stands as a real-world realization of this vision, merging cutting-edge technologies into a single, powerful architecture.

This project allowed his organization to leverage watsonx.ai, IBM's enterprise-grade AI platform and developer studio, to develop and deploy AI models into their applications of choice while utilizing externally hosted models that  run on optimized NVIDIA inference engines. “This platform became the foundation for adopting Agentic AI and other advanced, and AI-Powered applications across the organization,” he mentioned.

By migrating existing AI Assistants to IBM watsonx Orchestrate, Mohamed was also able to integrate a powerful AI orchestration layer across the platform to automate workflows and coordinate AI services, all running on the resilient, scalable foundation of Red Hat OpenShift AI.

“This project wasn’t just a technical milestone,” Mohamed reflects. “It was a testament to how NVIDIA’s computational excellence, OpenShift AI’s operational strength, and IBM watsonx’s intelligent solutions can come together to form a seamless, enterprise-grade AI solution. It perfectly aligns with IBM’s vision to make AI scalable, trustworthy, and open, and proves that Saudi organizations are ready to lead in this new era.”

An Advocate for Real-World Impact

Mohamed is driven by the belief that knowledge shared is value multiplied. His advocacy, focused on case studies, aims not only to demonstrate the value of IBM technologies but also inspire others to innovate.

He recently joined fellow professionals at the IBM Champions Meetup in Riyadh (May 2025), an event he found energizing for its deep technical exchanges and strong sense of community.

Had he not chosen technology, Mohamed would have entered the medical field, drawn to the same values that define his technical work: precision, empathy, and a structured approach to making a meaningful impact. He encourages aspiring IBM Champions to begin their journey without hesitation: “Start before you feel completely ready. Share your experiences, your successes, your challenges, your lessons. The IBM community is built on collaboration and will support you every step of the way.”
