What if updating Kubeturbo or Prometurbo across 100 clusters took the same time as upgrading it on just one?
We're excited to announce the general availability of seamless updates for Kubeturbo and Prometurbo. This new capability transforms what was once hours of manual work into a single click or automated script execution. This feature is now available as of October 29, 2025 in Turbonomic v8.17.6 for all customers with Kubernetes, Red Hat Openshift or Prometheus targets.
The Challenge We’re Solving
Until now, updating Kubeturbo and Prometurbo across Kubernetes clusters has been a manual, repetitive and time-consuming process that many customers describe as their biggest operational headache.
Each cluster required individual attention:
• Connect and authenticate to the cluster
• Manually update YAML files or Helm values
• Apply changes via kubectl, Helm, or Operator
• Wait for pod restarts
• Verify the update in Turbonomic UI
• Repeat for every. single. cluster.
For organizations managing 100+ clusters, this meant dedicating entire days to updates. Some teams needed multiple engineers over multiple days just to keep their targets current.
The inevitable result? Many customers simply delayed updates, missing out on critical features, performance improvements, and security updates.
A Complete Reimagining of the Update Process
The new feature eliminates this burden entirely. We've rebuilt the update process from the ground up with two implementation paths that work for any operational model.
Four Game-Changing Capabilities
🖱️ One-Click UI Updates:
Navigate to your targets in the Turbonomic UI. Select what you want to update. Click update. Done.
🤖 Bash Script Automation
Run the updateTurboTargets.sh script manually or schedule it with cronjob. Perfect for maintenance windows and full automation.
🎯 Intelligent Target Selection
The system knows which targets need updating. No unnecessary restarts, no wasted operations.
⚡ Parallel Processing Power
All targets update simultaneously. 5 targets or 100 targets take the same 30 seconds.
The Numbers Tell the Story
99% reduction in update time
From hours of manual work to 30 seconds of automation.
Traditional Manual Process
• Per cluster: 10-14 minutes of hands-on work
• 50 clusters: 8.5-12 hours (full day of engineering time)
• 100 clusters: 32+ hours (2 engineers × 2 days)
• Execution: Sequential, error-prone, exhausting
New Update Process
• Any number of clusters: ~30 seconds active time
• 50 clusters: 30 seconds
• 100 clusters: Still 30 seconds
• Execution: Parallel, consistent, effortless
Getting Started Is Simple
Step 1: Check Prerequisites
Ensure your Kubeturbo/Prometurbo are at version 8.17.1.1 or higher. This one-time manual update unlocks automated updates forever.
Step 2: Choose Your Method

1. Navigate to Target configuration in Turbonomic UI
2. Select targets needing updates
3. Click "Update"
4. Watch the parallel magic happen
Script Approach (Most Flexible)
1. Download updateTurboTargets.sh
2. Configure authentication
3. Run manually or schedule with cronjob
4. Let automation do its thing
Step 3: Enjoy Your Newfound Time
Seriously. That's it. Go grab coffee while your entire infrastructure updates itself.
What This Means for Your Team
DevOps Engineers
Reclaim your weekends. What once required careful planning and dedicated maintenance windows now happens while you're getting lunch.
Enterprise Organizations
Scale confidently. Adding more clusters no longer means proportionally more update overhead.
Security & Compliance Teams
Stay current effortlessly. Remove the friction that causes delayed updates and security vulnerabilities. Set it and forget it with cronjob automation.
The Bottom Line
This feature represents our commitment to reducing operational overhead. You should be optimizing your applications and infrastructure, not spending days maintaining the tools that optimize them.
