Even the most robust systems can encounter issues, and when they do, troubleshooting often falls on us to ensure minimal downtime. When troubleshooting IBM Storage Protect environments, one of the biggest challenges administrators faces is collecting the right diagnostic data to make sure the issue get the right level of attention at the earliest. Manual collection often means hunting through multiple directories for logs, configuration files, and system details an error-prone and time-consuming process.

What Are Must-Gather Scripts?

Instead of manually digging through logs and configuration files, these Must Gather scripts automate the collection of diagnostic data, making problem determination faster and more predictable.

These scripts automatically collect:

• System logs
• Configuration files
• Network diagnostics
• Core dumps
• System information

This comprehensive package can then be shared directly with IBM Storage Protect Support for reducing back-and-forth and accelerating resolution.

Supported Platforms & Environments:

Must-Gather scripts run across multiple IBM Storage Protect products and are supported on Windows, Linux, AIX and macOS.

Prerequisites:

 Perl 5.x installed  (download from www.perl.org)

 Sudo privileges for network/firewall commands (Linux/Aix/Solaris/MacOS)

 IBM Storage Protect Product must be installed on the system.

 Output directory must have write permissions.

How to Run Must-Gather Scripts:

Running Must-Gather is straight forward.

1.           Execute the script from the command line

2.           Specify the output directory

3.           Let the automation handle the rest

As our first step to automate log collection, all scripts have been uploaded to our git library at https://github.com/IBM/storage-protect-galaxy/releases

Going forward our goal would be to include the scripts as part of the product packaging and make it available in the local install folder.
