Optimizing CICS Monitoring: Key Enhancements in the October 2025 Update

By Minakshi Jaint posted 23 hours ago

The latest October 20, 2025, Fix Pack 2 update to IBM® OMEGAMON® AI for CICS® introduces several enhancements for improving performance, simplifying navigation, and optimizing resource utilization. Whether you're managing large-scale deployments or fine-tuning individual regions, these updates are designed to help you operate more efficiently and gain deeper visibility into your CICS infrastructure.

Efficient allocation of large Task History files

You can now allocate large task history files across multiple volumes using extended VSAM data sets. By specifying the desired file size in megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), or cylinders via the PARM value in the KC2HISFM JCL job, the system will automatically format and extend the file until it reaches the requested size or its maximum limit.

To get started, refer to the sample JCL provided in the TKANSAM library (KC2HISFM) for formatting and initializing the VSAM data set.

Streamlined navigation in E3270UI

Navigating between CICS regions in the Task History (KCPTASH) workspace is now more intuitive. You can simply overtype the CICSPlex and Region fields to jump directly to the task history data of other regions, reducing the time spent on manual selection.

From CICS region overview, you can place the cursor on the CICS region name to navigate to view all CICS options.

Improved visibility into ISC Connections

The Enhanced 3270UI now provides detailed session statistics for ISC connections. The ISC Connections Detail workspace provides information about:

  • Maximum sessions defined
  • Available sessions
  • Active sessions
These metrics are sourced directly from CEMT I MODE and displayed in the ISC Connections Statistics panel.

Detailed Resource Limiting messages

Resource management has been refined with the introduction of detailed Resource Limiting messages. These messages offer a comprehensive overview of the resources that exceeded their limit, including:

  • Transaction ID
  • Task number
  • User ID
  • Exceeded limit
  • Current value

To enable this feature, use the RESOURCE_LIMITING=AUTO,DETAIL option in the Startup Controls within the Global Data Area.

Transaction-Level Resource Limit insights

You can now view current resource limits applied to specific tasks or transaction IDs.

This can be accessed by pressing Enter on the Resource Limits field for a task or using the L option from the Transaction Summary panel.

VSAM File Detail option optimization

To conserve system resources, the VSAM file detail option is now disabled by default. You can enable this feature from the Global Data Area when detailed file-level insights are required.
