Scale your SAP HANA Database Smart: IBM grows in 2TB steps, competitors force giant leaps

By LAURI MCINNIS posted 8 hours ago

Why IBM’s HANA Scaling is a Big Differentiator
When it comes to SAP HANA sizing, not all hyperscalers are created equal.
Currently, AWS, Azure, and Google force customers into big leaps in RAM — 4TB, 6TB, even 8TB jumps.  These oversized steps lead directly to over-provisioning, wasted resources, and unnecessary cost for the client.
Example:
  • On Azure, a customer running a 15TB HANA database has no choice but to jump to 23TB — an 8TB leap.
  • On Google, once a customer reaches 18TB, the only option is to jump to 24TB.
  • On AWS, scaling from 18TB requires a leap all the way to 24TB.
The IBM Advantage
Only IBM allows clients to scale in 2TB increments (12 → 14 → 16 → 18 → … → 30).  That means customers only pay for what they need, when they need it. This granularity in scaling avoids wasted RAM and reduces TCO — a direct bottom-line benefit.
