We would like to announce IBM Open Enterprise vNext Python Beta. This beta is based on the Python 3.9 community release.

Z clients can develop applications with Python on z/OS in the same way as they would on any other platform, leveraging common skills that are widely available. Your software delivery teams can use the Python programming language and its extensive ecosystem of modules, packages and frameworks to accelerate your digital transformation.

What can you expect in this vNext Beta release?

• Dictionary Merge & Update Operators
• New removeprefix() and removesuffix() string methods
• Type annotations in source will now support built-in collection types like list and dict
• A new parser which makes it easier to add new functionality to the python language
• The standard library adds a new graphlib package which supports producing a Topological ordering, something  you had to implement yourself in the past
