IBM Power technology-based servers receive Rocket Software technical support for Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power

Published: 10 October 2023

At a glance

IBM® Power® technology-based systems are designed to run AI workloads, and AI platforms are required on top to optimally manage these workloads from the perspective of data science, IT operations, and software engineering teams. Most teams incorporate open-source technologies into their AI platform, so the latest level builds and right support is crucial to ensure the successful deployment of AI applications in enterprise contexts.

To meet this need, IBM has partnered with Rocket Software to offer Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power Support that covers popular tools and toolkits such as Kubeflow for MLOps
Overview

Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power Support (5639-1AI, 5639-2AI, and 5639-3AI) focuses on platform AI features on the container level while also providing package-level support:

  • Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power Support delivers support for Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power container images on IBM Power9 and Power10 technology-based servers.
  • Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power Support includes RocketCE AI/ML on IBM Power Support to provide support for RocketCE executables, binaries, libraries, and packages within the Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power environment.

Benefits of Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power Support include:

  • A Support agreement (1 to 3 years, renewable) beginning at order delivery through the Rocket Open AI Hub for Power website.
  • The Rocket AI Hub for Power provides all the artifacts (container images, executables, binaries, libraries, and packages) built for IBM Power.
  • Technical support for artifacts.
  • Defect support for artifacts.

The Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power is an integrated and freely available set of best-of-breed open-source AI platform tools all optimized for IBM Power. For example, fine-tuning of foundation models (such as large language models) and AI model inferencing get an automatic speed-up on IBM Power10 servers thanks to its energy-efficient on-chip acceleration and full-stack optimization provided by the integrated RocketCE portfolio. As a platform approach, all tools are delivered as container images that are operated within Kubernetes-based environments such as Red Hat® OpenShift®. Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power is therefore similar to the Open Data Hub project but covers additional tools, integrates all tools via Kubeflow, is optimized to leverage unique AI hardware capabilities of the IBM Power platform, and an optional commercial support is available.

Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power brings an open-source AI platform to organizations that require enterprise-grade integrations, a full-stack optimization maximizing energy-efficiency while minimizing costs, and a platform capable for leveraging AI wherever it is needed -- often close to mission critical data and transactions.

The Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power container registry provides containers supported for the Power architecture by Rocket Software. Moreover, Rocket AI Hub for IBM Power includes RocketCE to ensure AI applications can fully leverage IBM Power CPU features, such as the Matrix Math Accelerator (MMA), Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) engines, and a high memory bandwidth.
