Additional support for Linux 6 Kernel for Communications Server on Linux, SuSE SLES 15 SP6 and Ubuntu 24.04 with APAR LI83234

The recent release of Communication Server for Data Center Deployment V7.1.1.1 added support for RHEL 9.4. At the time, the Linux 6 Kernel support was not available:

Latest Release FixPack for Communications Server for Data Center Deployment 7.1.

An  APAR fix is now available that provides the additional support for Linux distributions running on the Linux 6 Kernel (6.4.0 for SuSE SLES 15 SP6, and 6.8.0 for Ubuntu 6.8.0). The APAR is a small TAR package that contains an installation script that updates the files as needed to add the support. This update requires that that the latest Communications Server Linux Streams be downloaded from https://github.com/IBM/CSLiS website. The release is the CSLiS-7.1.1.1 that has "lis_date   09 Sep 24" as the minimum date in the head/version.c (grep -1 lis_date /usr/src/CSLiS-711/head/version.c).

The sequence for installing the APAR is to download first the CSLiS-7.1.1.1.tgz from the website. You will need to install the CSLiS-711 first. The README file, section 2.2.2, has the information needed.

Next, install the Communications Server for Linux on your system using the "installibmcs" script in the installation media package. Then, un-TAR the LI83234.7111.20240909.tar package found on Fix Central:

LI83234.7111.20240909 APAR link

From the LI83234_APAR directory that is created when the TAR file is expanded, run the install script "installcsAPAR". This APAR can be applied to any of the 3 supported Linux platforms (x86_64, s390x and ppc64le).

You can now issue "sna start" and the product will begin initializing the drivers and processes for the SNA server. Review the LI83234_README.txt for details on unpacking and installing the APAR.
