New in NetView for z/OS v6.2.1 - Canzlog and Command Statistics Enhancements (3Q18)

By JACQUI SHAWLEY posted Thu April 02, 2020 05:55 PM

NetView for z/OS delivered three major enhancements in September 2018. A brief description of each item with a link to the APAR is included.

Dynamic Canzlog Data Space Size (APARs OA55071 and OA55074)

The active Canzlog data space is 2G by default and is allocated under the Master Scheduler address space. A smaller data space with a 512M size is also available. However, even 512M is too large for some installations.

This enhancement provides the capability to start with a data space size of 128K. The data space will remain this size as long as automation keeps up. If automation is not keeping up, the data space size will increase by 8M until it reaches 512M or 2G.

The new capability removes storage constraints on LPARs with limited system resources.

Canzlog Print (APARs OA55077 and OA55078)

Canzlog Print provides the ability to store syslog and NetView log messages for audit and diagnosis purposes in a single action. Customization is available to allow the printed messages to be tailored for a certain scenario or to meet an installation's requirements. The customization options include message filtering, number of messages, and detail information for the messages.

Printing can be done from the NetView 3270 console, a Canzlog browse window, and the Canzlog filter panel.

This enhancement provides great assistance for problem diagnosis, as well as the ability to save just one log, instead of saving a syslog and netlog.

Command Statistics (APARs OA55075 and OA55076)

NetView Command Statistics provides insights into system resources consumed by NetView commands. The statistics can be used for accounting purposes, analytics, or to improve performance. The commands to be monitored can be customized. Additionally, customizable samples provide summarization and detailed data on a per command basis.
