Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform 4.16 on IBM Z® and IBM® LinuxONE adds improvements and new capabilities to Red Hat OpenShift components and concepts.

The notable enhancements of the 4.16 release are the support for the following features on IBM Z and IBM® LinuxONE:

  • Agent-based Installer ISO boot for Red Hat Enterprise Linux KVM
  • Assisted Installer discovers LPAR environments
  • Ingress Node Firewall Operator
  • Secure boot for IBM z/VM® and LPAR
  • Compliance Operator enables PCI profile

The new capabilities help to improve security, ease the installation, and ease the management – not only for the new deployment options.

The multiple deployment options, including multi-architecture compute, single-node OpenShift, hosted control plane (tech preview), allow to select the best fit for your demands, while benefitting from the strengths of the IBM Z and IBM® LinuxONE platforms.

For example, a client has chosen a 'single-node OpenShift' deployment in 'IBM zCX Foundation for Red Hat OpenShift' for high performance and security, and seamless integration with the existing IBM z/OS® operational management.
