Previously, the runtime metric collection (RTMC) sample analytics pipeline used Docker to build and orchestrate containers to help manage the various components in the pipeline. With this support, you can satisfy security requirements for a rootless containerization solution by using Podman instead of Docker. Podman provides a rootless solution and does not require a daemon, which makes it more lightweight and secure.
This APAR also provides the following updates for Linux on an x86 system and Linux on IBM Z:
- Support for Java 21 for Java 21 for the tpfrtmc offline utility, the tpf_zmatc_analyzer offline utility, and the sample analytics pipeline replay script.
- Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.
- Structural reorganization to provide a more streamlined setup and help make merging future changes less time consuming.
- User files and user configurations were enhanced to provide an easier way to separate IBM provided files and user-defined files. In particular, these enhancement can make it easier to include your custom Granfana dashboards.

In addition, to facilitate the move to Podman, the process uses Kubernetes files that contain configuration settings to deploy images built by scripting that is provided in the tpf_sap/tpf_files/tpf_utility_scripts directory. All IBM related scripts to set up and deploy the Kubernetes files are in the tpf_sap/tpf_files/tpf_utility_scripts directory and must be run from that directory.
