IBM z/OS Container Platform enhancement is now available

 

IBM z/OS Container Platform (zOSCP) 1.1 enhancements, providing open-source upgrades and foundational capabilities to further manage the Kubernetes cluster upgrade process are now available via PTFs.  

IBM z/OS Container Platform, zOSCP, utilizes industry-standard open-source technologies to build, deploy, run and manage containerized z/OS UNIX applications natively on z/OS. The product delivers a container runtime, Kubernetes orchestration and High Availability and load balancing capabilities to manage the availability and scalability demands of a Kubernetes cluster.

With this delivery, IBM is preparing to further enhance the capability to support a production ready environment for running z/OS containers.

This IBM z/OS Container Platform 1.1 update is shipped with PTFs for the following APARs: OA67369, OA67457, OA67458, OA67459, OA67460, OA67461, OA67462, OA67463, OA67464, OA67465.

Enhancements:

  • Infrastructure for a future automated workflow to simplify IBM z/OS Control Plane Appliance (zCPA) upgrades

  • Open-source component upgrades:

    • IBM z/OS for Skopeo is upgraded to Skopeo version 1.17.
    • Container Network Interface for IBM z/OS version 1.1.
    • Kubelet for IBM z/OS is upgraded to version 1.32.
    • cri-o for IBM z/OS is upgraded to version 1.32.
    • IBM z/OS Control Plane Appliance (zCPA) is upgraded to 1.32.

 

Simplified Upgrade Process for IBM z/OS Control Plane Appliance (zCPA) Coming Soon

We are excited to announce that this delivery of zOSCP is laying the groundwork for a new automated workflow that will make upgrading your zCPA easier.  With a single command, you'll be able to upgrade your zCPA, including starting and stopping the zCPA and joining the node to the cluster. This new workflow will offer a more streamlined alternative to the existing zOSMF workflow and will become the recommended method for upgrading your zCPA in the future.
