z/OS Change Tracker: *NEW* Compare Resources function/ demo

By Fiona King posted Tue May 21, 2024 02:30 PM

The IBM z/OS Change Tracker z/OSMF plug-in provides an interactive and easy-to-use GUI front-end, right from the z/OSMF desktop. Currently, the plug-in includes a Monitored Resources view for managing and protecting data sets. Functions include real-time monitoring of change activities, member-level backups, and recovery utilities with auditable tracking mechanisms built-in.

Now, the ‘data set compare’ function, which is currently available for ISPF and batch jobs, is supported in the z/OSMF plug-in for z/OS Change Tracker!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can you do with the new Compare function?

  • Data sets and volumes can be compared against one another to find member-level changes, additions, and deletions.
  • These comparisons are simple to create and run and can be saved and re-run at any point in the future, which is helpful for periodic comparisons between test and production environments, for example.
  • The optional use of data set name mapping allows you to map data set names to one another across the selected volumes, so you can get accurate results despite the data set names being different.
  • Long-running comparisons (such as large volume comparisons) are run in the background to keep you productive on the platform.
  • Once complete, the comparison results are displayed in an easily consumable summary page with filter, sort, and export capabilities, as shown below:

This data set and volume comparison function is available on z/OS V2.5 and above via the PTF for APAR PH56939.

Among additional enhancements, this APAR also addressed a previous customer request, in which the plug-in now uses the logon proc defined in the IZUPRMxx member when creating TSO address spaces, so that customers can specify what logon procedure is to be used.
