We're happy to share that on November 14 2024, Microsoft announced the availability of .NET 9.
The release is currently available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift as detailed in their November 15th announcement, .NET 9 now available for RHEL and OpenShift. On RHEL you'll find the package as dotnet-sdk-9.0.If you're running Ubuntu, you can find it for Ubuntu 24.10 via apt (search for dotnet9), and is already included in the upcoming Ubuntu 25.04 release. If you wish to install it on the latest LTS release, Ubuntu 24.04, you can install via the .NET backports archive, maintained by the .NET team at Canonical.
Official support for IBM Z and LinuxONE began three years ago with the .NET 6 release in 2021. The IBM Z continues to work closely with the development team at Microsoft and the Linux distributions to make sure this latest release is working well on the platform.
