On May 8th, 2025, Maximo enthusiasts gathered at The Holiday Inn in Portsmouth for a day filled with insightful discussions and exciting revelations about the future of the Maximo Application Suite (MAS). The event brought together users from various industries, all eager to share their experiences and learn about the latest advancements in MAS.
Networking and Shared Experiences
One of the most valuable aspects of the Maximo User Group meetings is the opportunity for clients to network, share ideas, and discuss challenges. These interactions foster a collaborative environment where users can learn from each other's experiences and find solutions to common issues.
Compared to last year's user group, where many attendees were apprehensive about the move to MAS, this year marked a significant shift in attitude. Almost all clients have now embraced MAS, looking forward to its benefits and already experiencing positive changes. This sea change in attitude reflects the growing confidence in MAS and its capabilities.
The Networking event took place on the Victoria of Wight ship to the Isle of Wight, with a beautiful sunset and complimentary buffet with refreshments. Best of all an opportunity to see how the Captain embraces Maximo in the control room.
Scottish Water: Small Steps, Big Journeys
John Wigham from Scottish Water kicked off the day by highlighting their journey with Maximo. Partnering with Cap Gemini, Scottish Water has integrated Maximo into their sustainable investment decision-making process. This strategic move underscores their commitment to leveraging technology for long-term benefits and operational excellence.
Wightlink's Evolution with Maximo
Stuart James from Wightlink took the stage to share their transformative journey that began in 2014. With the support of their partner SRO, Wightlink has successfully deployed HSE and established starling connectivity, paving the way for a seamless transition to MAS. Managing over 30,000 assets, they have seen significant improvements in efficiency, inventory management, and cost savings with MAS 9.
Mitie's Path to High-Performing Places
Helio Reis and Dave Ashby from Mitie discussed their innovative use of MAS for field service and capacity management. They emphasized the importance of exploring MAS offerings before considering external solutions. The future looks bright as they anticipate the AI capabilities in MAS 9.1, such as Work Order Intelligence and the Maximo Assistant, which promise to enhance their operational efficiency.
IBM's Vision for the Future
Andrew Foster from IBM presented an exciting roadmap for MAS, encouraging users to contribute ideas via IBM.com/ideas. With 59 ideas delivered in MAS 9.0 and 152 in MAS 9.1, IBM continues to push the boundaries of asset management through AI and IoT. The upcoming MAS 9.1 will leverage Watsonx for generative AI, introduce a new Security Group Application, and expand the MAS catalog to include Maximo Real Estate, Facilities, and Renewables.
Embracing AI and Mobile Advancements
The meeting also highlighted the integration of AI in MAS 9.1, with features like the Maximo Assistant and Work Order Discovery. The introduction of remote assistance in MAS Mobile will further enhance field operations, making it easier to manage work orders and incidents on the go.
The Maximo User Group meeting was a testament to the continuous innovation and commitment within the Maximo community. With the integration of AI, mobile advancements, and a strong focus on optimizing asset value, the future of Maximo looks incredibly promising. Attendees left the event inspired and equipped with new ideas to maximize the potential of their Maximo implementations. Truly grateful to Richard Barber, Michael O'Reilly and the team for the seemless coordination.
