IBM Application Performance Analyzer for z/OS (APA), your favorite application performance analysis software has released some new features in the past year that will surely wow you. Check them out!

Ability to show APAR level on version command in ISPF front end.

This is useful for admin staff in determining the maintenance level of APA, either during the install/maintenance process or for support issues.

New IBM Z reports.

New system reports showing CPU consumption metrics of system-wide address spaces

  • Z01 System CPU Usage by Jobname

  • Z02 System CPU Usage by ASID

  • Z03 System/Target CPU Usage Timeline

Before the Z reports, the scope of the information provided by an APA measurement was limited to the address space that was specified in the observation request (plus ancillary address spaces) . The Z reports provide a summary of the CPU resources that were consumed by other address spaces in the system during the measurement of the target address space. This allows the user to analyze system activity that may have been competing for CPU resources with the target address space.

S01 report enhancements.

This encompasses a few different additions to the S01 report:

  • The SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) mode of the CP and zIIP processors is reported.

  • CPU consumption is reported by processor type - zIIP and zAAP/zCBP

  • Enclave CPU is reported by processor type and task type
