Meet Shawn Bodily, a Senior IT Consultant and Services Manager at Clear Technologies. As a dedicated IBM Champion for ten years, Shawn has made a lasting impact through technical expertise, knowledge sharing, and community advocacy.
Among Shawn’s proudest achievements are those in technical writing, a skill that grew in unexpected ways throughout his career. What once began as a challenging subject back in college has since become an area of accomplishment for Shawn, who today holds Platinum author status for his extensive contributions to IBM Redbooks. Adding a bit of personality to his work, Shawn often used the names of friends, family, kids, sports teams, or even favorite K-pop artists for the systems in Redbooks projects, leaving behind a subtle “calling card” of his contributions.
Shawns favorite IBM product is IBM Power Systems. Its performance, flexibility, and reliability make it a consistent favorite for many. Advocacy, for Shawn, has always been most rewarding in the form of speaking engagements, even though he admits it happens less often these days. It’s clear, however, that connecting directly with people remains one of the highlights of his role as a Champion.
Conferences continue to be a cornerstone of Shawn’s Champion experience. Attending TechXchange 2024 was a highlight, not only for the strong technical sessions, but also for the chance to reconnect with colleagues who are often only seen at these events. This sense of community connection is what brings IBM Champions together, beyond the technology itself. Looking ahead to TechXchange 2025, Shawn will be speaking at session 3539: “From theory to real-life workloads with PowerVS and PowerVS Private”. This session will explore how to move from theory to practical use with IBM Power Virtual Server (PowerVS) and its private cloud option. It will highlight real-world examples and strategies for running workloads efficiently and securely on IBM’s hybrid cloud platform. Be sure to check it out!
For those interested in becoming an IBM Champion, Shawn offers this advice: “Advocacy needs to be a natural desire, not a forced effort. Becoming a Champion should be an unexpected, nice side effect, not the single driving force.” It’s a reminder that authenticity and passion create lasting impact in the community.
