The Future of Enterprise AI Begins with Your Data

Today, IBM® is proud to announce that IBM® watsonx.data® on IBM® Power® is now Generally Available. This milestone marks the next step in delivering a unified and hybrid data foundation purpose-built for the era of generative AI. IBM watsonx.data is a hybrid and open data lakehouse designed to help enterprises store, manage, enrich, and govern structured and unstructured data at scale, unlocking insights faster and enabling generative AI with trusted data. By combining the flexibility of data lakes with the performance of data warehouses, watsonx.data helps organizations simplify their data estates, improve price-performance, and gain self-service access to governed enterprise data.

Why watsonx.data on Power?

Enterprises running mission-critical workloads on Power processor–based servers, including Oracle Database on AIX, Db2 for i, and SAP HANA, can now bring their data closer to AI by running watsonx.data natively on Power. This approach allows organizations to leverage the same resilient and high-performance infrastructure they already trust for essential operations to power next-generation analytics and AI workloads. The scalability, security, and uptime of Power make it an ideal foundation for watsonx.data, enabling AI integration without disrupting core business processes. The combined platforms offer hybrid and open flexibility, allowing enterprises to access and govern data wherever it resides while avoiding vendor lock-in. They also deliver optimized performance and cost efficiency through multi-engine execution along with enterprise-grade resiliency to support reliable, protected generative AI applications at scale.

A Foundation for Generative AI

As organizations look to scale AI adoption responsibly and efficiently, data readiness is key. IBM watsonx.data on Power provides a single and governed architecture to unify enterprise data access across systems and prepare it for AI inferencing. With support for vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and integrated data governance, the platform helps enterprises bridge the gap between traditional analytics and modern AI. This unified environment enables Power clients to modernize data lakes, reduce warehouse costs, and accelerate the delivery of generative AI applications that leverage both structured and unstructured data.

Available Now

Starting today, watsonx.data on Power is available for deployment on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform on Power with IBM Cloud Pak for Data entitlement (beginning with version 5.3). It can run on Power10 and Power11 processor-based servers, offering optimized configurations, gold-glove installation, and IBM single-point-of-triage support for enterprise clients. With the General Availability of watsonx.data on Power, IBM delivers a complete and enterprise-ready data foundation for AI, combining the openness and innovation of watsonx.data with the performance and reliability of Power. Together, they empower clients to unlock the value of their existing data, modernize for the future, and confidently scale AI across hybrid cloud environments.
