We all have mobile devices.  As they become our primary mode of engagement, we should expect our management applications to be accessible anytime, anywhere.  But access should be easy, with simple-to-use interfaces, so PowerVM™ system admin responsibilities can be accomplished anywhere.  This is what myHMC does.

Here are the steps to get started:

1) Watch the video.

2) Install the app from Google play or iTunes.

3) Use the app.

4) Tell us what you think here!

Hi Don, thanks for bringing the issue to our attention. Were you running on the Android app or the iOS app?

Hi Bob, I'm sorry to hear about the issue you had with the Android version of the ap. We are running some tests and looking at the issue. Just to confirm, was this v2.0?

Someone mentioned this during today's VUG presentation, so I installed it. It installed fine, and I was able to connect to one of my HMCs. But, it crashes any time I tell it want to see the managed system list. I see that multiple people mentioned this months ago. So, I've uninstalled it. I'm running Android 7.1.2.

Most users we're aware of either VPN to their company from their mobile device, or access the HMC over their company intranet. But you're right in that HMCs would never be on a public network, so this app wouldn't be useful for companies without mobile VPN software or who disallow mobile devices on prem.

The app looks great, however I think most people will not be allowing access to HMC directly from internet. I think if you could add 2FA it would be very good and more secure to use this tool. Using Google Authenticator for example would be great. Can I ask how other users secure to access to theirs hmc from the internet in order to use this tool or are most of you using it tool when they are connected to local wifi at work?

The next release will add actions for lpars (on/off/restart), vios (on/off/restart), and managed systems (on/off/restart/add/remove). It will also include a new Power News feature that displays all of the latest blog posts related to the future of HMC and Power Systems Enablement. In addition we have added more data to our views as well as new performance charts for Managed Systems. The development for this release is completed; we are waiting on some internal processes to complete and will release shortly thereafter. Thanks for the interest. Any feedback is appreciated (what features would you like to see?).

Do you have any roadmap what kind of features are you going to implement in the future versions? So far it's good to have such app but it's too simple and only works in a "view mode" to see the infrastructure and not very productive.

I was pleased to see the appearance of this app and immediately disappointed. Any attempt to connect with any one of our 12 HMCs ends with the app crashing. The HMCs are installed with 7.6.0.1 and 8.3.0.0. Regardless of the installed version the mobile myHMC app crashes when attempting to load information. We would be happy to assist with troubleshooting as this will be of benefit to our operational team.

Hi, i tried to use myHMC App on an ipad with newest ios 9.2. I start the App and provided the Login Information, but the App crashes during "Gathering of data". Any idea what could be the reason for this? We usr HMC V8R8.3.0. Thx

Sorry... my fault... my phone runs Android 4.2.1 (rusty and falling apart as it is) and myHMC wants 4.4.0 or higher... the Play Store hides unsupported apps without telling me that. I will continue to look after my HMCs using the laptop... nice try anyway!

This app is not yet ready for prime time. It crashes every time I try to drill down into a server. Also, we have two hmcs. One is V8R8.1.0.1 and one is V8R8.2.0.1 and I can only connect to the first one running the older version.

Hey Andreas - You need HMC V8 or higher since we require the REST API to fetch data. The port is 12443, and we are adding the ability to use hostnames soon! Thanks for the feedback.

Hi guys, which Port is the app using and why is it not possible to use DNS names instead of an IP address? And on which HMC Version is it working? With V7.7.7 I get no connection. I think for customer its a nice tool to use it outside the company LAN (Intranet) over the internet. thx and best regards, Andreas P.

Could you provide some more details on the problems you're having with the enhanced+ GUI? Or is there a PMR opened to track this issue we can reference?

According to IDC, 79% of the world Smartphone market share is using Android. No surprises that IBM has been losing its market share. If IBM can't release an Android app, please be more specific in the future, the title "The myHMC iPhone app is here!" will save a majority of Smartphone users quite reasonable time.
