We have great news: There is an excellent replacement alternative for IBM Information Archive (IA) and DR550 as well as for new archiving solutions: the SSAM solution. System Storage Archive Manager (SSAM) is a variation of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) which is made for compliant archiving and is key component in IA and DR550. SSAM solutions can be well positioned as DR550 / IA replacement and for new archive solutions based on three invincible arguments:

1. SSAM is certified for compliance according to international laws and regulations [1]
2. There is a direct and transparent migration path from DR550 and IA to SSAM 6.3 ([3], [4] and [5])
3. SSAM is made for archiving providing a variety of value adding functions (backup, tiered storage). An SSAM solution comprises IBM server, storage, tape and SSAM as the archive storage management software. SSAM solutions are extremely flexible and scalable and can satisfy a wide range of client requirements as outlined in the SSAM solution reference architecture ([2] and [6]).
